WoC Aotearoa - Belonging

We’d like to welcome you to our second event in a series of online events for 2026, centred around our three core values: Equity, Belonging, and Self determination.

This event will be about “Belonging” - what it means to “belong” in Aotearoa as a woman of colour (WoC). We aim to explore the aspect of being “othered” and how we as WoC in Aotearoa find a way to belong vs navigating the feeling of not belonging.

We have a panel of speakers from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds to discuss their experience of belonging in Aotearoa. Like our previous events, this event will be an open forum for questions and discussion as attendees feel comfortable.

Format:

1) Karakia

2) Hear from a panel of speakers

3) Share reflections and stories in breakout rooms

4) Karakia

To respect privacy and confidentiality

The gathering will not be recorded. For sharing reflections and stories in breakout rooms, we do ask that everyone who attends turn their cameras on. We encourage participation by sharing not just observing - even if it is just a connection or resonance with one or two other people. It is in these moments of hearing others' stories, that can make us feel less alone and that we belong to a community.

For any of the personal stories that you will hear at this event, whether that is from another member in the hui or from one of the panel speakers, we ask for confidentiality and not share them beyond the event without their explicit permission and of course for your own stories, you can share them with who you feel comfortable with.
